Milo Kester is a London-based artist. His practice explores ideas around non-human intelligence and agency, sci-fi as speculative thinking and forms of storytelling. For the past few years Milo’s work has been engaging with the River Thames, as his studio is in Woolwich. He gets a lot of his material directly from the river and has been investigating the storytelling potential of the objects coveted and preserved by the river mud.

Milo is interested in the temporal suggestion of his work; simultaneously wanting it to exist in the past, present and future, through the ways of making used and the objects/ artefacts it references. A three-footed form striding through space and time.

At the core of his practice is an engagement in making and collage and I have been interested in the boundaries of sculpture, painting and drawing. The way that sculpture can become gestural and its mass can shift as one moves around it, with planes and densities appearing momentarily before moving out of sight. Creating a form of latent movement, teetering on the brink of collapse.

Some of his major aesthetic influences include the works of Lynn Chadwick, Thaddeus Mosley and Phyllida Barlow, as well as Science Fiction, and comics.
